The film “Good Burger” was released in 1997. Now, 25 years later, star Kenan Thompson has confirmed that a sequel is in the works, spilling the beans during an appearance on “The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.”

Rumors of a sequel started after Thompson and co-star Kel Mitchell posted a photo on Instagram commemorating the 25th anniversary of the original film. The post went beyond nostalgia though, with a caption that read in part, “Sup with that part 2?!” Fans of the 90s were suddenly very excited.

“Tonight Show” host Jimmy Fallon decided to get to the bottom of it. “Are you saying that ‘Good Burger 2′ is happening?” asked Fallon.

“I would like it to!” the Saturday Night Live star replied. “We are working harder on it than ever, so it’s about meeting the numbers, letting them numbers match up. ‘Cause I need them numbers.”

In 2020, Mitchell did an interview with PEPOLE also hinting at a “Good Burger 2.″ Mitchell and Thompson had a three picture deal with Paramount, but only two of the three films were made.

“We want it to be just as fun for everyone as it was the first time around, and then also cater to a new generation as well as the old generation. It’s just been kind of that task, to make sure we do that well. But it’s still in the talks,’ said Mitchell to PEOPLE.
