On March 19, the Atlanta-based Captain Planet Foundation (CPF) will celebrate its 30th anniversary with a star-studded gala to mark three decades of climate activism and impact. Honorees include some of the world’s most impactful figures in the race to save our planet and species, from celebrity scientist Bill Nye to actor and icon Jane Fonda to youth activist Jerome Foster II.

The event will commemorate the Foundation’s three decades of impact while raising funds to support its five operating programs and grant-making. Christi Paul of CNN will emcee and moderate a live discussion with the three honorees. The Gala will be streamed virtually for free.

The gala will also serve as the first major kickoff for CPF’s new program, the Planeteer Alliance. The Planeteer Alliance program teaches young people ages 10 to 23 about the root causes of critical environmental issues, helping them create a plan of action within their community. The program, which debuted in early February, is the foundation’s most ambitious youth education and training effort to date, seeking to engage and educate thousands of students, and encourage hundreds of leaders for environmental change.

The Captain Planet Foundation was born from the animated television series “Captain Planet and the Planeteers,” conceived by Ted Turner and Barbara Pyle in 1989, which took an “edu-tainment” spin on key environmental and social issues. The pair founded CPF in 1991 to encourage young people to become problem-solvers for the planet
