Maybe extra dancing is a rite of spring for your extended family. Or maybe it should be. In either case, these activities offer a way to promote dancing amongst the grandkids, whether you’re participating or are spectators honing an appreciation for artistic expression.

Garden Grooves at Atlanta Botanical Garden

10 a.m.-11:05 a.m., Thursday, May 11. Free with garden admission starting at $26.95 for adults and $23.95 for kids ages 3-12; children 2 and under free. Atlanta Botanical Garden, 1345 Piedmont Ave. NE, Atlanta.

A weekday treat, Garden Grooves is tailored to tots 2-5 years old and encourages exuberant song and dance in the great outdoors. Through October, this event happens each Thursday, which could be the motivation to get that annual pass.

While you’re there, be sure to check out the stupendous “Trolls: Save the Humans” exhibit of Thomas Dambo-designed sculptures made of reclaimed materials and towering 15 feet tall and 25 feet wide. They may inspire a happy dance, too!

‘Cats’ at City Springs Theatre Company

8 p.m. Thursday-Friday, May 11-12, 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. Saturday, May 13, 2 p.m. Sunday, May 14. $37-87. Byers Theatre at Sandy Springs Performing Arts Center, 1 Galambos Way, Sandy Springs.

The classic musical with lyrics from Andrew Lloyd Webber gets a new (or is it a ninth?) life with this City Springs production.

Take the opportunity to share the dance and song that captures the heart of the live theater and the character of our feline pets. Mature tweens and teens with a theatrical bent will love the fanfare and costumes.

Next weekend is the final for this production, so if you’re yearning to go, make it happen.

Seen it yourself back in the day? Open up the “Memories” book and share both the music and your experience with young family members ahead of the show.
