Any way you look at it, the 19th Annual Fig Leaf 5K was a big success.

Some 130 people took part in the race on April 23 at Paradise Valley Club & Resort in Dawsonville. Just like the resort, which is located on 100-plus verdant acres some 45 minutes north of Atlanta, the race is clothing-optional. People could run it in whatever stage of dress or undress made them most comfortable. Generally, club employees say, more people run unclothed than, well, not, each year.

The really big number out of this year’s version of the Fig Leaf was $5,511. That’s how much money the race ended up raising for the Dawson County Humane Society, including a washing machine that was donated by a club member.
