Sometimes, we all have to make sacrifices for nature.

Case in point: "Pints for Parks," the upcoming event for Park Pride.

This growingly popular “annual social for greenspace enthusiasts” it will take place from 6 - 9 p.m. on May 3 at Orpheus Brewing in Midtown.

Park Pride, in case you don't know, is a nonprofit that works with communities in Atlanta and DeKalb to develop and improve their parks by coordinating volunteer projects, awarding grants and hosting educational and advocacy events.

Orpheus Brewing — as if you didn't know, heh, heh! — is an artisinal brewery nestled on Dutch Valley Place overlooking Piedmont Park and the Beltline.

What better setting could there possibly be for this latest version of "Pints," which this year celebrates the achievements of Park Pride's "Friends of the Park" program? Arguably the heart and soul of what it does, Park Pride has helped organize over 100 "Friends" groups — citizens who join together to support and improve a specific park or greenspace (see the full list of groups here).

“They bring positive awareness to these spaces through great programming, applying for grants for capital improvements and organizing volunteer workdays,” said Ayanna Williams, who manages the “Friends” program for Park Pride. “They are true stewards of greenspace, and I am so proud to recognize their work, leadership and accomplishments this year with a great event like ‘Pints for Parks.’”

In keeping with the location, this year’s event will feature chefs from four popular restaurants situated along the Beltline — The Mercury, Rathbun’s, Richards’ Southern Fried and Venkman’s — crafting dishes to pair with specific Orpheus beers. There’ll be a silent auction, music and other activities, as well as a “guilt reduction” option that will allow people to scarf down all that great food and drink with a clear conscience:

Becky Katz, Atlanta's Chief Bicycle Officer, will lead a guided bike ride of 6.2 miles through several in-town parks that ends up at Orpheus just in time for "Pints for Parks." (see route and registration info here)

Registration for "Pints for Parks" is $35 and must be done in advance. Go here for all the information.
