This year’s Celebration of Land fundraiser, benefiting the Trust for Public Land in Georgia, is planned for 5 p.m. Oct. 4 at the site of the proposed Proctor Park, 692 Gary Ave. along Proctor Creek in northwest Atlanta. Proctor Creek, a 9-mile-long tributary of the Chattahoochee River, originates beneath the city of Atlanta.
The party, themed "Proctor Creek Clearwater Revival," honors Sally Sears as the 2015 Conservation Trailblazer. She is the executive director of the South Fork Conservancy, which supports the health and preservation of the south fork of Peachtree Creek.
The Trust for Public Land has partnered with landowners, community groups and national, state and local agencies to complete more than 3,500 land conservation projects in 47 states, protecting 2.5 million acres, according to organizers. In Georgia, the Trust for Public Land has conserved nearly 23,000 acres and has worked on conservation projects along the Atlanta Beltline and the Chattahoochee River, as well as historic sites including the Martin Luther King Jr. National Historic Site and Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park.
Proctor Creek Clearwater Revival events chairs are Lori and Thornton Kennedy. For tickets and information, call 404-873-7306, ext. 225. For information about the Trust for Public Land, see www.tpl.org.
