Dancing With the Stars in Cobb
To raise money to support cancer patients, Cobb County has challenged its local stars to show off their dancing skills, TV-style, at the Marietta Conference Center. City Council members, medical professionals, pastors and more have answered the call and will be paired with local dance professionals. The top-tier tickets get you dinner, two drinks, the performances and entry into the after-party with all the competitors as well. The event is coordinated through Loving Arms Cancer Outreach Inc.
7-10 p.m. Sept. 26. $20-$90. Hilton Marietta Conference Center, 500 Powder Springs St., Marietta. 770-590-5153, lovingarmscanceroutreach.com.
ROSWELL
Beyond My Stone
As the autumn chill begins to settle in, the past lingers in the air. The Roswell Historical Society brings that past alive with its annual event, Beyond My Stone. Amid the gravestones of the Old Roswell Cemetery, a number of Roswell residents will take on the persona of those who have gone before to share their stories and paint a vivid picture of the town’s history. Tickets are available the day of the event; parking is behind the water tower off Minhinette Drive. Prices vary by age and society membership, with a maximum of $30 per family.
5:30-7:30 p.m. Sept. 26. $5-$15. Meet at the intersection of Alpharetta Highway and Woodstock Street, Roswell. 770-992-1665, roswellhistoricalsociety.org.
STONE MOUNTAIN
Plein Air Paint Out
“En plein air” is French for “Get outside!” or, more accurately, “in the open air.” It’s a popular pastime for artists who can get out of their dimly lit studios and ply their crafts in the great outdoors. ART Station has recruited artists to paint throughout Stone Mountain Park and Stone Mountain Village during the day and then submit their works for a reception that evening. Attendees can watch artists as they create their masterpieces, then go to the awards presentation ceremony and reception at 4 p.m., after which the art will be available for sale.
8:30 a.m.-6 p.m. Sept. 26. Free. ART Station, 5384 Manor Drive, Stone Mountain Village. 770-469-1105, artstation.org.
