BROOKHAVEN

Chili Cook Off

If October has you feeling a bit chilly, consider warming up with a bit of chili. The fourth annual Brookhaven Chili Cook Off will feature 75 teams of both professional and amateur chefs, all competing to create the best chili. Live music from three bands will provide the entertainment, and there will be arts and crafts areas, games and a kids zone. And, just in case you reach your chili limit, food trucks offering a variety of fare will be on-site. Admission to the festival is free, but to sample the chili options you’ll need a $15 tasting wristband and a spoon.

Noon-6 p.m. Oct. 10. Free. Brookhaven Park, 4158 Peachtree Road, Brookhaven. 404-456-4655, brookhavenchilicookoff.com.

KENNESAW

Fall-O-Ween Festival

The city of Kennesaw is raising the spooky quotient three weeks before Halloween by turning Swift-Cantrell Park into Spook Central Park. The popular green space will be filled with carnival games, kid crafts, inflatables and a trick-or-treat trail. Get clever with your costume, because prizes will be awarded for the best. But, whatever you wear, make sure it’s comfortable enough to work your moves at the Monster Mash Dance. Wind down the evening with a free screening of “How to Train Your Dragon 2.” Blankets and lawn chairs for the movie are permitted, but leave the tents and canopies at home.

5 p.m. Oct. 10. Free. Swift-Cantrell Park, 3140 Old 41 Highway, Kennesaw. 770-422-9714, kennesaw-ga.gov.
