Chalk Walk
On July 19, the city of Lawrenceville invites you to unleash your inner child while your own kids do the same. All ages are invited to grab a giant chunk of chalk and draw all over the city's sidewalks. Participants can compete to win prizes, with $100 going to the best amateur adult and artist younger than 18, and $300 to the best professional artist. Chalk artist Anthony Cappetto will be on hand to provide encouragement and to unveil his own 3-D, 400-square-foot work. The event is a promotion of the Aurora Theatre tied to its season opener, "Mary Poppins." Participants must register on the theater's website and then visit the Chalk Walk booth at the Lawrenceville Farmers Market for a free supply of chalk. 9 a.m.-noon July 19. Free. Chattahoochee River Paddle
Summer in Atlanta means the chance to spend some quality time on the Chattahoochee. Members of the Georgia Conservancy plan to do just that and are inviting the public to come along. The group is sponsoring a relaxing river paddle along 11 miles just north of Sweetwater Creek State Park. The float will be followed by a campfire party at Riverview Landing with a cookout, live music and SweetWater beer. 2 p.m. July 19. Destination Trinidad
One of the best ways to learn about a new culture is to sample its food. Expand your horizons and treat your taste buds with a sampling of 18 authentic dishes from Trinidad, the "rainbow island" off the tip of South America. Along with food, the event features traditional Tassa music, Carnival costumes and a lecture on the country's society, economy and culture. A portion of the proceeds supports the nonprofit Go Eat Give's mission to raise cultural awareness through food, travel and community service. 6 p.m. July 19. Adults, $35; children 5-12, $10.
