SANDY SPRINGS
“All I want is a room somewhere far away from the hot, muggy night air — with one enormous picnic blanket.” Eliza Doolittle might be singing that tune if she lived in Atlanta. But if the traditional version of “My Fair Lady” appeals to your ears, along with classic songs from “Carousel,” “Guys and Dolls,” “South Pacific” and “The King and I” then be on hand for the Capitol City Opera Company’s “On the Light Side” annual fundraiser. Attendees are invited to bring their own picnic dinners, enjoy their eats without the outdoor heat and savor musical selections from some of Broadway’s best shows.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m.; the music begins at 8 p.m. July 28 and 29. $40 individuals; $300 for a table of eight. Highpoint Episcopal Community Church, 4945 High Point Road, Sandy Springs. 678-301-8013, ccityopera.org.

Youth of Gwinnett, an organization dedicated to helping the county’s underprivileged kids, knows that the new school year can be stressful and costly. To turn that around, the organization is hosting a Back 2 School Bash at Berkmar High School. The event will be a chance for the community to enjoy giveaways, activities and entertainment to wind down the summer, and all youth who attend will be given free school supplies. In addition, a portion of the funds raised through the event’s activities and food sales will support the organization’s Build a Hopeful Home project.
11 a.m. July 29. Free admission. Berkmar High School, 405 Pleasant Hill Road, Lilburn. 770-837-6684, yogwinnett.org.
