Which TV dog, real or cartoon, is your favorite? Vote in our poll. May 2012.

Dog guru Justin Silver, host of the new show "Dogs in the City," puts his talents to work every Wednesday beginning May 30, as he tries to help New York City hounds and humans tackle unsettling problems like joint custody after divorce or dealing with significant others who just moved in. Could some of these dogs become our faves? Maybe. But how will they match up against some of America's top TV dogs like...

... Lassie, who was forever alerting the public to Timmy's predilection to fall into wells.

... Murray from "Mad About You." Who can resist a dog that chases invisible mice into walls?

... Santa's Little Helper, who's served as the mascot for Duff Beer in addition to being a much-loved part of the Simpsons' household.

... Scooby Doo - The crime-solving, snack-loving Great Dane has been groovy since 1969. Without him, how would we know to say "Rut roh" when being chased by a tall goon in a monster mask?

... Rin Tin Tin. Folks enjoyed watching his adventures with Rusty on ABC-TV in the '50s but the original Rin Tin Tin was born in 1918.

... Eddie from "Frasier." The little Jack Russell Terrier didn't say... er... bark much but the way he stared down Dr. Frasier Crane was worth a thousand words.

... Underdog. "Have no fear... UNDERDOG is here!" What's not to love? (Also, that's a pretty snazzy cape.)

... Brian Griffin from "Family Guy." Not your average hound, Brian wishes to be a successful writer and struggles with alcoholism. In short, he understands the true meaning of the term "dog days."

... Astro from "The Jetsons." Now, hold on... This space-age pooch ALSO had "ruh-roh" in his vocabulary. Hmmm... Well, at least he was zipping around in spaceships instead of the Mystery Machine. Score on that: Astro 1, Scooby 0. Just saying.
