Claudia Stucke, a former high school English teacher who lives in Decatur, competes on “Jeopardy!” tonight (Tuesday, March 22).

She competes tonight on "Jeopardy!" (7:30 p.m. on WXIA-TV NBC) one day after Steve Stoffle, a leadership trainer from Decatur (and a one-day champion), lost in the second round on Monday night. Stoffle finished first on Friday night, winning $17,599. He came in second Monday night.

Stucke, who is 67 years old, said she had taken the online test for “Jeopardy!” multiple times and it was not until the most recent, and fourth time about a year ago when she made it to the next stage, and she participated in an audition at a hotel in Atlanta last summer. Tonight’s show was filmed in Los Angeles in early February. (She is not allowed to discuss results from the show.)

Stucke, who watches “Jeopardy!” almost every night, said her children have long encouraged her to compete in the country’s popular and highly competitive quiz show.

“It is something on the bucket list,” she said. “It was a wonderful experience. Everyone was so nice.”

Stucke said she doesn’t consider herself a competitive person, just someone who happens to know a lot — about many subjects.

“I am one of those people who knows a lot of things,” she said. “It’s just the way I am wired.”
