Love is in the air, and Lauren Potter has the smile -- and the ring -- to prove it.

Potter, who is best known for playing Becky Jackson, one of Sue Sylvester's cheerleaders on "Glee," received a promise ring from her longtime boyfriend, Timothy Spear.

People caught up with Potter's mom, Robin Sinkhorn, who dished on all the details about that romantic day.

"He picked out the ring, made payments on it, and then planned the picnic and the moment to get down on one knee to ask her to promise to be his one-and-only and marry him when they are ready," Sinkhorn told the magazine. "Then they watched the sunset together."

Potter and Spear, both 26, were born with Down syndrome and first met when they were in diapers and participated in the same child development class at Children's Center in Riverside, California. The families have been friends ever since.

"We've kept in touch over the years, but it wasn't until the kids were reunited while they were both living in Laguna Beach," Sinkhorn told People. "When Lauren ended a relationship, Timothy immediately asked her out and they have been together since."

Potter recently appeared in an episode of "Veep" and has worked as an advocate for individuals with special needs. She previously served President Barack Obama's Committee for People with Intellectual Disabilities.
