LOS ANGELES - Buoyed by double-digit ratings gains in daytime, CBS said: “Let’s make a deal.”
The network determined that the price was right to renew its lineup of daytime programs, and Wednesday said that next season it would bring back “The Price is Right,” “Let’s Make a Deal,” “The Young and the Restless,” “The Bold and the Beautiful” and the daytime chatfest “The Talk.”
CBS has boasted the top-rated slate of daytime programs for more than a quarter of a century, and this season has been no exception.
Heartening fans of the beleaguered soap opera genre, CBS’ two surviving daytime dramas - “The Young and the Restless” and “The Bold and the Beautiful” - have seen sturdy ratings growth compared with the 2012-2013 TV season.
“The Young and the Restless,” television’s top-rated daytime drama, is up 9 percent in total viewers, to an average of 5.17 million viewers an episode. CBS renewed the popular soap, produced by Sony Pictures Television, through the 2017 season.
“The Bold and the Beautiful,” which has seen audiences swell 14 percent, has been averaging 3.9 million viewers an episode and is also a strong performer in foreign markets.
“Let’s Make A Deal” with Wayne Brady is up 19 percent to nearly 3 million viewers an episode. “The Price is Right” with Drew Carey is up 14 percent to 4.9 million viewers an episode. “The Talk,” starring Julie Chen, is up 19 percent to nearly 2.8 million viewers.
CBS had previously announced that it will also bring back “The Queen Latifah Show,” produced by Sony, for a second season.
