Bill Hader to create and star in new HBO comedy

Hader was a staple on SNL for eight seasons and is probably best-known for charming audiences with two standouts characters. (Via Deadline Hollywood)

There was New York City club-scene guru Stefon:​ "New York's hottest club is Thank You!" (Via NBC / "Saturday Night Live")

And Italian talk show host Vinny Vedecci, an over-the-top Italian stereotype who chain-smokes and yells a lot like Sonny in "The Godfather." (Via NBC / "Saturday Night Live")

Along with acting, Hader also wrote for SNL and for Comedy Central's "South Park." (Via Comedy Central / "South Park")

And, while it's still unknown what the show's title is or what it will even be about, a writer for Bustle does point out an obvious clue: "We all know what a show on HBO means: crudeness and lots of cursing." Stuff Hader certainly couldn't get away with over at NBC.

Since saying goodbye to fellow cast members on SNL, Hader has bounced around the entertainment world.

The 35-year-old comedian has had guest spots on "The Mindy Project" and "Portlandia" and even popped on screen for Larry David's "Clear History." (Via CBS)

Variety also reports he's teaming with SNL alums Seth Meyers and Fred Armisen on a mock-umentary for IFC aptly titled, well ... "American Documentary."

Hader will have some good company on HBO, as he joins a pretty stellar lineup of comedies already offered on the channel including "Girls," "Veep" and "Silicon Valley."
