Primetime Emmy nomination contenders

Atlanta-based TNT, again, nabbed two nominations in the female lead actress in a drama with Holly Hunter (above, Saving Grace) and Kyra Sedgwick (The Closer). This is Hunter's second nomination in this category, Kyra's fourth. Hunter is from Conyers.

The tiny AMC network has two Emmy nominees for best drama, including the 2008 winner "Mad Men." Above, Jon Hamm and January Jones from the series.

Tina Fey (shown in episode with Oprah Winfrey) and "30 Rock" are up for nearly two dozen awards in the Emmys, which will presented in September.

"Breaking Bad" and star Bryan Cranston (right) are dominated in the drama categories.

There's been more buzz about the group of nerds on CBS' "The Big Bang Theory" than the wacky late-night crew on "30 Rock," which hauled in the most Emmys ever for a comedy series last year. Jim Parsons is up for lead actor in a comedy series.

The series fields are especially crowded, with seven contenders in both drama and comedy categories. Joining "Mad Men" are fellow cable dramas "Big Love," "Breaking Bad," "Damages" and "Dexter." Two network dramas, "House" and "Lost," also made the cut. Above, Hugh Laurie from "House."

William Shatner of ABC's "Boston Legal," was nominated for supporting actor in a drama series.

Jemaine Clement (left) was nominated for best actor in a comedy series for "Flight of the Conchords."

Lead acting nominations for drama series included Michael C. Hall in "Dexter."

Mary-Louise Parker stars as Nancy Botwin in "Weeds." "Weeds" and "Rescue Me" both have very damaged protagonists who inflict pain and suffering on their family but are often hilarious to watch and are surrounded by people who say and do very funny things in often grim situations. But "Weeds" is a comedy and "Rescue Me" is a drama. "Weeds" is a comedy nominee.

Simon Baker, who starred in the biggest new show of 2008-09 The Mentalist on CBS, joined the men's club among lead actors in a drama.

Kyra Sedgwick of "The Closer" is among the actress in a drama series nominees.

"Lost" was nominated for best drama series.
