This beach beast looks right at home competing in the Surf City Surf Dog Weekend at Dog Beach in Huntington Beach, Calif., Sunday, Sept. 25, 2011. Some 40 surfing dogs in four weight classifications participated in the competition.

These six dogs, some obscured, attempted to establish a world record for most dogs surfing on one board.

Although Joey, 7, wasn't near shore, the Westie decided to jump off his board anyway. (Was there a swimming category?)

Alha attire was in fashion at the Surf City Surf Dog Weekend and this clotheshound's "hang loose" look was spot-on.

Back to our six surfer dogs going after that world record: Although the courageous Luigi (front) led the pack towards greatness, they literally fell just short. The dogs were not able to stay on for the required ten seconds.

WIPEOUT! But what a way to go. This surfer dude... er, dog... seems cool with taking a bath. (Now that's a change!)
