Rick Limpert, an Atlanta-based Yahoo sports writer, is CBS Atlanta’s “Tailgate Fan” columnist.
Here are Rick’s picks for a few tailgating apps and gadgets to enhance your game experience for Saturday’s SEC Championship game.
Apps:
Great Tailgating Recipes App (Android)
Put out by Bon Appetit, this app costs about a buck, but it gives detailed recipes ranging from chili to burgers and more exotic fare. You’ll be the envy of other tailgaters with this cookbook app.
Tailgate Cornhole (iOS App)
It’s not a college tailgate party without a good game of cornhole. Now you can play cornhole right on your iPhone or iPad. This free app uses the gyroscope in your iPhone to control the speed, angle and flight of the bean bag. Play against your friends or against the computer. This is high-tech pregame fun.
Gadgets:
iOpener
This is an iPhone case and bottle opener all in one. Cost is about $15. It’s a small price to pay since you can never find a bottle opener when you need one.
Vortex Hand Crank Blender
No electricity needed for this blender. Comes with a 1.5-liter shatterproof pitcher and stainless steel base, which fits into the pitcher for compact storage. Powerful two-speed gear system crushes ice and makes all your favorite frozen drinks.
Weekender Canopy Tent
Keeps you covered and the elements out. The Weekender is one of the most popular tailgating tents on the market and you can add the Quick Shade screen cover to it for more protection.
Cruzin Cooler
Ever tried to walk around to numerous tailgates at the Georgia Dome. It’s a lot of walking. The Cruzin Cooler is a motorized cooler that you can ride. Keeps your drinks cold and your feet from getting sore. Not cheap, it starts at about $350.
Accessories
Add your Georgia or Alabama poncho to the gear your bring to the parking lot Saturday as you never know when it might rain. Don’t forget other accessories like a scarf with your team colors, a skull cap, or vest. It will be December after all.
