Cafe 458 gets makeover from TBS

Café 458, a downtown Atlanta restaurant that serves homeless men and women during the week and the public on weekends, was recently chosen as a subject for TBS' "Movie and a Makeover."

Designer Brian Patrick Flynn's challenge was to incorporate the styles and likes of the people the cafe serves into one space.

The finished product. The TBS crew completely redid the dining area with new lighting, ceiling tiles, seating, tables and flatware.

Framed photos of James Glenn, a former homeless man who is now on the board of directors and works for Coca-Cola, and Adorn King and Phillip Baxter, both of who are on the Clean Street Team, hang on the wall.

A bench along the wall helps increase Cafe 458's seating capacity. The baby blue trim on the pillows matches the place settings.

Charles Heard, who graduated from the Samaritan House of Atlanta life stabilization program in 2003, is one of the many volunteers at the cafe.

Program participants can choose from an assortment of entrees, sides, desserts and drinks.

It took designer Brian Patrick Flynn and the "Movie and a Makeover" crew five days to complete the project, the biggest makeover the show has undertaken.

TBS did not have time to make over the outside of the building, but there are plans to pick up where the network crew left off and give the exterior a face lift later this year.
