Producer and entertainer David Gest was found dead Tuesday in a London hotel.

The Mirror reports that police were called to the Four Seasons Hotel in Westferry Circus to investigate the death of a man. An ambulance was called, but Gest was pronounced dead at the scene.

Close friend Imad Handi released a statement confirming the news of Gest’s death.

A postmortem will be performed. There was no immediate word on the cause of death.

In addition to being on “Celebrity Big Brother” and other UK reality shows, Gest produced “Michael Jackson: 30th Anniversary Celebration,” one of the highest-rated musical specials in television history.

Gest made headlines with his brief marriage to entertainer Liza Minnelli. The couple married in 2002 and divorced a year and a half later. Gest filed a multimillion-dollar lawsuit against Minnelli, claiming that she had been physically abusive during their marriage, but the suit was dismissed. Minnelli denied the allegations.
