Steak Shapiro, Chris Dimino and Nick Cellini, hosts of sports show "Mayhem in the A.M." on Atlanta radio station 790 The Zone were fired after a bit they did mocking former NFL star Steve Gleason, who suffers from ALS.

MSNBC host Martin Bashir resigned from the network on Dec. 4, 2013, nearly three weeks after making graphic remarks on his show about former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin. He had suggested that someone should defecate in Palin's mouth because of a remark the former vice presidential candidate made comparing the United States' indebtedness to China with slavery.

Jimmy "The Greek" Snyder was fired as a CBS Sports commentator after making controversial remarks about black athletes.

"Pardon the Interruption" co-star Tony Kornheiser was suspended for comments he made on his radio show about "SportsCenter" host Hannah Storm's clothes.

Radio and television personality Don Imus was suspended after referring to the Rutgers women's basketball team as "nappy-headed hoes." His CBS Radio show "Imus in the Morning" was subsequently canceled.

Right wing radio host Rush Limbaugh has never been suspended for on-air comments, but has courted controversy several times, including accusing Michael J. Fox of exaggerating the effects of his Parkinsons disease and calling a law student who spoke on birth control a "slut" and a "prostitute."

Shock jock Howard Stern was suspended in 1982 after a segment featuring a video game where a group of men pursued the Virgin Mary around a singles bar in Jerusalem.

Radio shock jocks Greg "Opie" Hughes, left, and Anthony Cumia, right, have been fired or suspended several times: The duo was fired in April 1998 for an April Fool's Day prank involving Mayor Thomas Menino. Opie and Anthony told their listeners that the Mayor had been killed in a car accident while transporting a young female Haitian prostitute. They were suspended from a different show after encouraging a couple to have simulated sex in a vestibule at St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York (the show was later canceled). They were suspended from their XM Radio show in 2007 after a stunt involving a homeless man. Another show was suspended for three weeks after the duo pushed "Whip Em Out Wednesdays," encouraging women to flash their breasts.

A.J. Clemente was fired from a North Dakota television station after he opened his first-ever broadcast with obscenities. He made the rounds of several talk and news shows in the following days, including "Today."

ESPN announcer Ron Franklin, center, was fired after calling sideline reporter Jeannine Edwards "sweet baby" and calling her a name after she objected.

Before focusing on politics on MSNBC and Current TV, Keith Olbermann got himself into hot water as an anchor at ESPN. He was suspended for two weeks after making an unauthorized appearance on the “Daily Show,” and calling Bristol, Conn., where ESPN is based, a "godforsaken place." He was later suspended from MSNBC after making unauthorized political contributions.

New York DJ and MTV VJ Cipha Sounds (with singer Keyshia Cole) was suspended from his radio show after he after making comments implying Haitian women were more likely to have HIV.

CNN political analyst Roland Martin was suspended for homophobic tweets during the Super Bowl.

CNN fired anchor Rick Sanchez after he called Jon Stewart a bigot in a radio show interview where he also questioned whether Jews should be considered a minority.

Australian radio DJs Michael Christian, left, and Mel Greig were suspended after a bit they did led a nurse in England to commit suicide. The pair impersonated Queen Elizabeth II and her son, Prince Charles, as they phoned London's King Edward VII hospital to ask about the condition of the Duchess of Cambridge, formerly Kate Middleton, who had been hospitalized for treatment of acute morning sickness stemming from her pregnancy. Nurse Jacintha Saldanha, who put the call through to a colleague who in turn described the details of Kate's condition, was found hanging in her room three days after the prank was broadcast across the world.
