Patrick McDermott vanished during a fishing trip out of San Pedro, California, in 2005.
A private investigation in 2009 determined that McDermott faked his death to avoid paying debts and was living near Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.
Now, more evidence confirms McDermott is living and working in the isolated Mexico village of Sayulita, according to Woman's Day.
"To come up with the conclusion that he fell off the boat, and allegedly no one saw him fall off the boat, is the most preposterous thing I've ever heard in my life," John Nazarian, an investigator, told Woman's Day.
McDermott had been dating Olivia Newton-John for nine years when he disappeared in 2005. She has never commented on his reappearance. Newton-John married John Easterling in 2008.
McDermott had filed for bankruptcy before he disappeared on the chartered fishing boat. The Coast Guard investigation in 2008 concluded he fell overboard and drowned. Still, others believed he staged his death in order to cash in on a $100,000 life insurance policy, according to NY Daily News.
Private detectives, led by Texas-based investigator Philip Klein, found McDermott in 2009 after noticing a collection of IP addresses logging onto a website that followed his whereabouts.
A letter faxed to Klein in 2009 indicated that McDermott, who was living under his birth name Pat Kim, wanted to be left alone, according to The Daily Mail.
"Let him live his life in peace and harmony," the letter stated. "He is safe and has started anew again in a new place both physically and mentally. Stop this search immediately."
McDermott, now 59, is living with a European girlfriend in the remote area.
"It's rumored he was with a German national," Nazarian told Woman's Day. "The girl he was traveling with was described as having a German accent."
