Notable deaths in 2013

A look at some of the notable deaths in the world of entertainment in 2013.

Nelson Mandela, former South African president and widely recognized architect of democracy in that country, died at age 95 (seen here at age 90) on Dec. 5, 2013.

Paul Crouch, the founder of Trinity Broadcasting Network, the largest Christian broadcaster, died on Nov. 30 at the age of 79.

Nobel Prize-winning author Doris Lessing, known best for her novel 'The Golden Notebook', died on Nov. 17 at the age of 94.

Musicians Arash Farazmand (second from right) and Souroush Farazmand (far right) died on Nov. 11 when they were gunned down by fellow Iranian musician Ali Akbar Muhammad Rafie, who then turned the gun on himself, in New York. The Farazmand brothers were half of the indie rock group The Yellow Dogs, which also featured Koroush "Koory" Mirzaei (far left) and Siavash Karampour. The group was featured in the documentary "No One Knows About Persian Cats" about the underground music scene in Tehran, Iran.

Pete Haycock, the lead guitarist and co-lead vocalist for the British rock group Climax Blues Band, died on Oct. 30 at the age of 62. Haycock's group had a major hit with "Couldn't Get It Right" in 1976, and after leaving the group, he later released albums as a solo act and with Electric Light Orchestra Part II.

British actor Graham Stark (right), perhaps best known for his roles in the Pink Panther series of films, died on Oct. 29 at the age of 93.

Kumar Pallana, a one-time spice seller who became a go-to character actor for director Wes Anderson, died on Oct. 10. He was 94. Pallana (far right) is seen here with fellow 'The Royal Tenenbaums' cast members Gene Hackman, Jonah Meyerson, Ben Stiller, Grant Rosenmeyer, Anjelica Huston and Danny Glover.

Phil Chevron, guitarist for the group The Pogues, died on Oct. 8. He was 56.

Otto Sander, a German actor who had major roles in two landmark German films, 'Wings of Desire' and 'Das Boot', died on Sept. 30 at the age of 72.

Jay Robinson, a character actor known best for playing Caligula in 'The Robe' and the title character in the Krofft kids' show 'Dr. Shrinker', died on Sept. 27 at the age of 83.

Former WBO heavyweight boxing champion Tommy Morrison, who also starred alongside Sylvester Stallone in 'Rocky V', died on Sept. 1 at the age of 44.

David Frost, a journalist/media personality best known for coaxing an apology from President Nixon in 1977, died on Aug. 31 at the age of 74.
