New, familiar TV shows premiere this week

Dramas, reality shows and comedies are part of the fall TV season.

'Dancing With the Stars' 8 p.m. Monday, ABC Season 5's star contestants include former Spice Girl Melanie Brown, "90210" actress Jennie Garth, entrepreneur Mark Cuban, actress Jane Seymour and singers Wayne Newton and Marie Osmond (right).

'Heroes' 9 p.m. Monday, NBC After a promising first season, there's plenty of hype and expectations for season two. But like "Lost" and "Desperate Housewives," "Heroes" will have to fight that evil nemesis: High Expectations.

'The Bachelor' 10 p.m. Monday, ABC Believe it or not, we're up to edition No. 11, and this bachelor has -- gasp! -- a twin.

'NCIS' 8 p.m. Tuesday, CBS Season five means the magic 100th episode and supposedly, one major star dies this year.

House 9 p.m. Tuesday, Fox With his main staff gone, House will now pare down would-be replacements "Survivor" style!

'The Singing Bee' 9:30 p.m. NBC Expect some celebrity singers to join the party from this modest summer hit which made it to fall.

'Boston Legal' 10 p.m. Tuesday, ABC Several cast members were cut, though the core of William Shatner (left), James Spader and Candice Bergen remain.

'Law & Order: Special Victims Unit' 10 p.m. Tuesday, NBC This is the only "Law & Order" on the fall schedule with the original bumped to midseason and "Criminal Intent" off to USA.

'Private Practice' 9 p.m. Wednesday, ABC Kate Walsh's Addison (right) moves to a wellness clinic from her safe climes at Seattle Grace in this "Grey's Anatomy" spinoff.

'Criminal Minds' 9 p.m. Wednesday, CBS Star Mandy Patinkin (center) is out and Joe Mantegna is in. This is the only returning show in this time slot.

'Bionic Woman' 9 p.m. Wednesday, NBC Jaime Sommers, the woman with mechanical legs, ear, eye and arm, is reincarnated in this more serious, sleeker take on the '70s version.

'CSI:NY' 10 p.m. Wednesday, CBS As we enter season four, not a lot of major changes are afoot. The show isn't quite as big as the original or "Miami," but with its 15 million weekly viewers, it should stomp the life out of its two new rivals.

'Ugly Betty' 8 p.m. Thursday, ABC Plenty of cliffhangers to resolve and Betty's true love, Henry, comes back but obviously, producers will create new obstacles to keep them apart.

'Smallville' 8 p.m. Thursday, CW The show introduces SuperGirl, Superman's sis.

'My Name is Earl" 8 p.m. Thursday, NBC The charm wore off slightly in season two but now Earl is in jail and will be for a few episodes. That twist should add some fresh spice to this comic souffle.

'Grey's Anatomy' 9 p.m. Thursday, ABC Addison (Kate Walsh) has gone off to some spinoff and Burke (Isaiah Washington) was cut for reasons that have nothing to do with the fictional character.

'CSI: Crime Scene Investigation' 9 p.m. Thursday, CBS The miniature killer plotline that threaded through last year's shows will be resolved in the first episode.

'The Office' 9 p.m. Thursday, NBC The show will open with four supersized one-hour episodes.

'Scrubs' 9:30 p.m. Thursday, NBC With "The Office" getting supersized for a month, "Scrubs" debuts late in its seventh and final season. The producer tells Entertainment Weekly the focus won't be on whether Elliott and J.D. get together or not but it's hard to tell how serious he's being.

'ER' 10 p.m. Thursday, NBC Goran Visnjic (right) and Noah Wyle will be back for a few episodes.

'Without a Trace' 10 p.m. Thursday, CBSBrace yourself for a "CSI/Trace" crossover and Poppy Montgomery's real-life pregnancy is incorporated into the show.

'Las Vegas' 10 p.m. Friday, NBCEd (James Caan, right) is leaving as the casino owner, replaced by Tom Selleck's character. Nikki Cox is out, too.

'Ghost Whisperer' 8 p.m. Friday, CBS The show producers promise scarier storylines and a building mythology about the town Melinda (Jennifer Love Hewitt) lives in and its past with ghost whisperers.

'Desperate Housewives' 9 p.m. Sunday, ABC The neighborhood is shocked when news about Edie spreads though Fairview, Lynette battles with the effects of chemotherapy, and a new family moves to Wisteria Lane.
