If you thought Sam Smith's "Stay With Me," which got nominated for three Grammy's, and Tom Petty's "I Won't Back Down," sounded similar, you might be right.
Smith has settled with Petty and will be paying royalties, though his representative insists the songs' similarities are a "complete conicidence," according to Rolling Stone.
"I Won't Back Down" was written in 1989. "Stay With Me" was released last year.
As a result of the settlement, Petty is now formally listed as a co-writer of "Stay With Me."
