Tom Petty comes around pretty regularly, but this was his first time at snazzy new Encore Park in Alpharetta.

Tom Petty is one classic rock act who's considered cool by a lot of kids. A couple of weeks ago, the youngsters in buzz band Vampire Weekend played a cover of Petty's "Don't Come Around Here No More" at a free gig in New York's Central Park.

Steve Winwood, a rock legend in his own right, opened for Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers.

Steve Winwood helped form the bands Blind Faith, with Eric Clapton, and Traffic in the late '60s.

Steve Winwood's blue-eyed soul voice and organ swells propelled him through a chart-topping '80s.

Earlier this year, Steve Winwood and Eric Clapton returned to the stage in New York City for a collaboration that yielded the No. 1 hit "Dirty City" from Winwood's new "Nine Lives" CD (Columbia).

Steve Winwood first hit it big 41 years ago as a teenager with "Gimme Some Lovin' in 1967 with the Spencer Davis Group.

The thunderstorms didn't deter the crowd, and the lawn seating area was full. By the time Petty came on, the rain had stopped, and people were able to put their umbrellas away. Thunderstorms cleared out as Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers began their set.
