Repairs to the Tabernacle, which sustained significant damage when a tornado ripped through downtown Atlanta on March 14, are almost complete, just in time for a May 28 concert featuring Dream Theater.

The good news for the 98-year-old structure was that engineers found it to be structurally sound.

The stained-glass windows of the former church also sustained damage and had to be replaced.

On April 11, Roslyn Companies Inc. began removing 180,000 pounds of plaster and rebuilding the ceiling.

The company matched 90 percent of the nine different historical molding profiles.

Mandot Painting and Design, the company that originally did the painting when the venue was the House of Blues, was chosen to put the finishing artistic touches on the venue.

The scaffolding will come down Thursday after crews finish painting the ceiling.

"We want it to be as nice, if not nicer, when we reopen it," said Peter Conlon of Live Nation, which operates the Tabernacle.

The venue will hold its first concert in more than two months on May 28. Progressive Nation 2008 features Dream Theater, with Between the Buried and Me, Opeth and Three. Tickets are available at livenation.com.

Announced shows in June include comedian Margaret Cho and Cat Power.
