Thursday night, the sold out Tabernacle hosted Adult Swim's Metalocalypse featuring Dethklok, Mastodon, Converge and High on Fire. Death metal band Dethklok performs "Burn the Earth."

This heavy metal fest was as much about the male-dominated crowd as the dark, onstage antics of the bands. Brendon Small of Dethklok.

The predominant fashion statement for the night was black on black clothing, lots of tatoos, facial piercings and gauges (plugs in the ear lobes for the uninitiated). Dethklok plays "Bloodlines."

Mastodon perform "Oblivion."

Troy Sanders , bassist and vocalist for Mastodon, sings on "Quintessence."

Hometown faves Mastodon (here) and comic heroes Dethklok received the biggest crowd response.

Some crowd surfing activity during Mastodon's set. Surprisingly, there was very little moshing and crowd surfing during the ear-splitting concert.

The Tabernacle was sold out Thursday night for the four-band metal concert.
