Singer-songwriter-actor Lyle Lovett brought his 13-member Large Band to the Tabernacle Wednesday night for an entertaing evening of eclectic, country-tinged music.

The enthusiastic, though modest crowd thoroughly enjoyed the 2- plus hour concert which featured reserved seating on the Tabernacle main level.

Lyle Lovett recorded only two studio albums with his Large Band, the first one twenty years ago and the second one in 2007.

Lovett says that he called his back-up group his "Large Band" in order to distinguish it from the "Big Band" sound although there is some overlap.

When asked about Texas music, Lovett recently said: "In Texas there are plenty of places to play music, but there's not a lot of music 'business' going on. This allows you to focus on the live audience and perfecting the performance of the songs."

Lovett and the band's latest tour is promoting the CD "Natural Forces," which was released just last month.

So where was local blues diva and Large Band member Francine Reed? Performing "Beamont & Caswell" at Teatro Zinzanni in Seattle, according to her Web site.
