Feist brings indie rock to Masquerade

Indie rock favorite Feist performed at the Masquerade Music Park on Friday. The show was originally scheduled for The Tabernacle, which was damaged by the tornado that struck downtown Atlanta last month.

Feist begins her set silhouetted behind a curtain. She is a Juno Award-winning and Grammy-nominated Canadian singer-songwriter.

Leslie Feist was born on Feb. 13, 1976, in Amherst, Nova Scotia, Canada. Her father, Harold Feist, is an abstract expressionist painter and worked at both the Alberta College of Art and Design and Mount Allison University.

When she is not touring with her own band, Feist plays in the indie rock supergroup Broken Social Scene. Previously, she has played in Noah's Arkweld, By Divine Right, and Peaches.

At the 2008 Juno Awards in Calgary, Feist was the top winner with five awards, Songwriter, Artist, Pop Album, Album and Single of the Year.

Feist's platinum third solo album, The Reminder, was released in May, 2007, and includes the hit '1234,' which was featured in a commercial for the iPod nano. The song climbed to No. 8 in the U.S. on downloads alone, quite a feat for an indie artist .

The intro to the Feist track titled 'My Moon, My Man' was featured on a Verizon commercial for the LG Chocolate VX8550 in 2007.

Feist was photographed by Annie Leibovitz for the November 2007 issue of Vanity Fair as part of a photo essay on folk music, also featuring Joni Mitchell, Peter, Paul and Mary, and The Guthrie Family.
