Thirty-nine years ago today, Elvis Presley died due to heart failure at his at home Graceland in Memphis, Tennessee on Aug. 16, 1977 at the age of 42.

Elvis Aaron Presley was born to Vernon and Gladys Presley in Tupelo, Mississippi on January 8, 1935.

A graduate of Humes High School, Presley moved to Memphis November of 1948.

The "Heartbreak Hotel" singer received his first guitar for his 11thbirthday from Tupelo Hardware Company and the rest was history.

In 1957, Presley purchased Graceland for $102,500 from Mrs. Ruth Brown Moore, the former wife of Dr. Thomas Moore.

Years later, married Priscilla (Beaulieu) Presley at the Aladdin Hotel in Vegas. The two gave birth to their daughter, Lisa Marie Presley, on Feb. 1, 1968 at Baptist Memorial Hospital.

Performing his last show at the Market Square Arena in Indianapolis, Indiana on June 26, 1977 Presley left behind a golden legacy as well as millions of adoring fans.
