Bruno Mars, Monae soul-fill the Fox

Bruno Mars' soul-filled 24-city U.S. tour with Janelle Monae stopped at the Fox Theatre Tuesday.

Grammy award-winning artist Bruno Mars - and his signature Fedora - delivered songs from his "Doo-Wops & Hooligans" album.

Mars showed multi-instrumentalist talents jamming on a guitar and even pulled out a ukulele for "Count on Me," a sweet, mellifluous ode to friendship.

Bruno Mars' playful demeanor was ever-present during his performance. The 25-year-old crooner performed his hits "Nothin' On You," "Marry Me" and now-signature smash, "Just the Way You Are."

Atlanta's Janelle Monae - a tiny whir of James Brown's feet, Grace Jones' hair and his own soul - played with a four-piece orchestra, a four-piece band, two brass players and two backup singers, many of them jitterbugging around the stage while playing.

During her hour-long set, Monae tapped everything from the New Orleans chug of "Faster" to the blistering "Locked Inside."

Monae will open for Prince this weekend at the L.A. Forum.
