Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band worked a packed house into a total frenzy at Harlem's legendary Apollo Theater. It was a prelude to a world tour that launches March 18 in Atlanta.

Springsteen was backed by five horns and three vocalists in addition to his customary group, the E Street Band.

Springsteen paid tribute to those who have played the Apollo before, performing a rendition of Smokey Robinson's "The Way You Do the Things You Do," and Eddie Floyd and Steve Cropper's "684-5789."

Saxophonist Jake Clemons, the nephew of the late band member Clarence Clemons, who died June 18 after a stroke, played a few songs with the band.

Springsteen played some soulful tunes from his own repertoire, including "The E Street Shuffle" and "Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out."

Bruce Springsteen and Steven Van Zandt of the E Street Band dusted off a few more recent songs, like "Waiting on a Sunny Day" and "The Rising," along with some newer songs off the new album "Wrecking Ball."

The exclusive concert was hosted by SiriusXM in celebration of 10 years of satellite radio. Springsteen played a two-hour-plus set for a VIP audience that included Elvis Costello, Steve Earle, Bette Midler and Dave Stewart, among others.
