The Black Lips Headline Stomp and Stammer Birthday Party, Friday, November 30, 2007, Variety Playhouse (SOLD OUT).

Local favorites The Black Lips (pictured), Deerhunter, Snowden and The Selmanaires sold out the Variety Playhouse Friday night in a raucous celebration of Stomp and Stammer Magazine's 11th anniversary of regional music coverage and support of local artists.

The Black Lips are a self-described 'flower punk' band from Atlanta that has built a fan base that appreciates their energy and style, a rough mixture of blues, rock, doo-wop, country, and punk. The band formed as teenagers in 2000 after guitarist Cole Alexander and bassist Jared Swilley (pictured) left the Renegades, and guitarist Ben Eberbaugh left the Reruns. Drummer Joe Bradley joined a few months later.

The Black Lips are known for crazy live shows that have included vomiting, urinating, nudity, band members kissing, fireworks, and a chicken. Their fans frequently toss beer and bottles onto the stage during their shows.

Headliners The Black Lips cut up in their dressing room prior to taking the Variety Playhouse stage. Guitarist Ian St. Pe' (right) replaced Jack Hines in 2005, who had replaced Ben Eberbaugh, the band member tragically killed in a 2002 car accident.

The Black Lips made their American national television debut in October, on 'Late Night with Conan O'Brien.' The band got exposure in the New York Times for being the hardest -working band during the 2007 South by Southwest music festival in Austin, Texas. They played a dozen shows over a three-day period.

Atlanta-based Deerhunter deliver noise rock sounds for the crowd in Little Five Points Friday night.

Deerhunter's 6-foot-4 lead singer, Bradford Cox, has Marfan syndrome, a genetic disorder of the connective tissue that gives him abnormally long and spindly limbs. (The late Joey Ramone was another well-known frontman with Marfan syndrome.)

Upcoming shows at Variety Playhouse include Kingsized, Dan Zanes, Paul Thorn, Tinsley Ellis, Dresden Dolls and Mofro.

Jordan Jeffares leads popular Atlanta band Snowden Friday night at the Stomp and Stammer 11th birthday celebration.

Taking its name from the character Howard Snowden in the novel 'Catch- 22,' indie rock band Snowden has opened for groups such as Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Kings of Leon and Arcade Fire. In 2006, Jade Tree Records signed the band and released their debut album 'Anti-Anti.'

Jeff Clark thanks the sold-out crowd of indie music fans for supporting Stomp and Stammer for 11 years.
