Babyface comes 'home' to Cobb Energy Centre

Babyface and Ayo played the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre Wednesday night.

Babyface opens his set with 'Knocking On Heaven's Door.'

Kenny 'Babyface' Edmonds and his longtime friend and production partner Antonio 'L.A.' Reid started a label in Atlanta in 1989 -- LaFace Records -- and nurtured an industry, as noted by AJC reporter Sonia Murray.

Edmonds was also a successful R&B recording artist during the label's 11 years.

The only time he staged a major concert run as a solo performer -- in 1994, with Boyz II Men -- he skipped Atlanta.

He told the AJC's Sonia Murray that his new record, 'Playlist' is 'a performance kind of record.'

Babyface told Murray that he took a look at the venue online and liked what he saw.

'I think that place is really beautiful,' he told Murray before the performance.

Babyface has 10 Grammys.

'I have a really strong four-piece band,' he told the AJC.

Tre Thompson of Alpharetta and LaTonya Pouncey of Austell await Babyface's entrance Wednesday evening in Marietta.
