AMA announces nominees

Several performers with Atlanta connections nab American Music Nominations.

Atlanta-based Akon attends a benefit for UNICEF and the Sarah Ferguson Foundation on the same day he was nominated for best Pop/Rock male artist for the American Music Awards.

Justin Timberlake is nominationed for Pop/Rock male artist. His album, 'Future Sex/Love Sounds,' was nominated in two categories: Pop/Rock and Soul/Rhythm & Blues.

Beyonce Knowles arrives at a party for the New York unveiling of Usher Raymond's new fragrances.

Fergie, a nominee for Pop/Rock female artist, will performed at the American Music Awards show, to be broadcast Nov. 18 by ABC-TV.

Maroon 5 is up for Pop/Rock band, duo or group. Other nominees are Linkin Park and Nickleback.

Toby Keith was nominated for Country Male artist, along with Tim McGraw and Brad Paisley.

Carrie Underwood, accepting the video of the year award at the CMT Music Awards earlier this year, is a nominee for Country female artist, along with Taylor Swift and Martina McBride.

Atlanta's Ne-Yo, performing at the fourth annual VH1 Hip Hop Honors, is a Soul/Rhythm & Blues nominee with Akon and T-Pain.

Rihanna, nominated for Soul/Rhythm & Blues female artist, attends a benefit for UNICEF and the Sarah Ferguson Foundation. The other two nominees in the category are Beyonce and Fantasia.

Atlanta rapper Clifford 'T.I.' Harris is up for best Rap/Hip-Hop male artist, along with Fabolous and Young Jeezy.

Atlanta rapper Young Jeezy is greeted by fans, friends, and family as he enters his new clothing store, Eight.

Bone Thugs-N-Harmony are a surprise nominee -- twice -- for Rap/Hip-Hop band, duo or group and for their 'Strength and Loyalty'album.

John Mayer is an nominee vying fwith Daughtry and Norah Jones for artist honor in the Adult Contemporary category.

The White Stripes' Amy White and Jack White are nominees in the Alternative Artist category. Other nominees are Linkin Park and My Chemical Romance.

Jennifer Lopez is a nominee in the Latin artist category with Daddy Yankee and Juan Luis Guerra & 440.

Christian rock band Casting Crowns, another Atlanta claim, is up for an AMA just days before they perform in Gwinnett.

'High School Musical 2' and 'Dreamgirls' and 'Hairspray' are nominees for Soundtracks Album.

The Plain White T's are a new artist nominee in the Breakthrough category.

Robin Thicke is a nominee in the Breakthrough category, along with Plain White T's and Daughtry.
