The Muppets are looking to make a return to TV, literally with a bang.
A co-creator of the "The Big Bang Theory," Bill Prady, is co-writing a pilot script that ABC is filming, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The episode will be shown to Madison Avenue advertisers in May and could be ordered for a series right away if things go well, the report says.
The pilot will be filmed in California next weekend and feature original Muppets performers, according to the Reporter. The plot for the pilot presentation will feature the original Muppets gathering outside the studios, ready to work but unable to until Miss Piggy signs on and also resolves a relationship issue with Kermit the Frog.
Prady started his career working for Muppets creator Jim Henson in 1982. Prady wrote for "The Jim Henson Hour" until shortly after Henson died in 1990, according to the Reporter.
Bob Kushell, of "Third Rock from the Sun" fame, will also co-write for the new show and serve as its showrunner.
The original Muppet Show deubted in 1976 and was on air until 1981.
The project is a collaboration between ABC and Muppet studios, which are both owned by Disney.
