Brittany Murphy, the 32-year-old actress who died Dec. 20, will be remembered for her roles in countless movies, including "Clueless" and "8 Mile."

Murphy's career started with small roles in television series, commercials and movies, but her part in "Clueless" led to larger projects. "I always felt connected to her as we shared a very special experience in our lives together," co-star Alicia Silverstone told People magazine.

Murphy's performance in "Don't Say A Word" earned her an award for Standout Performance by a Young Actor at the 2002 Young Hollywood Awards.

Murphy's turn in "Just Married" led to a relationship with co-star Ashton Kutcher that lasted six months. After learning of her death, Kutcher Tweeted, "2day the world lost a little piece of sunshine. My deepest condolences go out 2 Brittany's family, her husband, & her amazing mother Sharon."

Georgia girls Murphy and Dakota Fanning, who was born in Conyers, united in "Uptown Girls."

Murphy could be heard as Gloria in "Happy Feet," but it was not her first foray into voicing animated characters.

"King of the Hill" fans could hear her as Luanne on more than 200 episodes.

Through the years, Murphy had transformed from the frumpy girl people had seen in "Clueless" into a fashionable woman who was one to watch on the red carpet.

Murphy married British screenwriter Simon Monjack in May 2007. "The sudden loss of our beloved Brittany is a terrible tragedy," Murphy's husband and family wrote in a statement. "She was our daughter, our wife, our love, and a shining star. We ask you to respect our privacy at this difficult time."
