It's summer and the blockbusters are hitting theaters. On these long, hot days, many of us need only the oasis of flowing refreshments and cool air to be happy as we watch raging dinosaurs, brash teddy bears and male strippers (I know, it's an insane summer line-up if you look at it that way). Parents and caregivers have much more to consider as they are likely going to watch something a little more PG with a few little ones in tow. If you fit the latter profile, look no further than these top picks for kid-friendly movie theaters around the city:

AMC Parkway Pointe (Vinings). This theater couldn't be better equipped for kids. It's wonderful, but don't even think about going unless you've built in some extra time to stop in Main Event downstairs to play a few arcade games before heading up to your movie. The possibilities for fun surrounding your movie experience are endless at this perfect all-in-one stop on Cobb Parkway. Kids will love it! You may have to work a few extra shifts to pay for all the game credits and movie tickets, but boy will it be worth the smiles (and the sound sleepers in the car after all is said and done).

*Something to note: Parkway Pointe is also one of two AMC locations in Atlanta to offer Sensory Friendly Films to our families affected by autism. Click here for more information on these movie experiences.

Starlight Drive In Theatre (Intown). If low key is more your style, enjoy a classic movie viewing experience at the Starlight Drive In Theatre. Bringing your own refreshments is welcomed at this classic Atlanta landmark, and your ticket pays for not one, but two movies! Adults are admitted for $9, and kids 9 and under enjoy their movie experience for $1! The movies tend to start late (especially in the summer with longer days), but PJs are totally acceptable within the comforts of your own car. The transition from movie scenes to sweet dreams is seamless, and the kids will rave about the unique experience for days. Check the website for movie times, coupons and helpful info.

Regal Hollywood 24 at North I-85 (Chamblee) is among the most accessible movie theaters within the Regal Entertainment Group. There's ample parking and a game room at this theater. Members of their Regal Crown Club enjoy weekly deals, monthly coupons and other special offers at Regal theaters in and around the city. It's free to join, so start racking up those points for you and your kids! They also offer discounted tickets for designated days and timeframes. Check the specials and promotions section of their website for value days at a location near you. Hint: Tuesdays seem to be the best days for discounts.

AMC Fork and Screen (Buckhead). Dine-In movie theaters may seem like a nightmare when you consider all that goes into dinnertime on a regular basis, but kids LOVE this concept. Having a small meal on a table in front of them can help with those fidgets that seem to creep up in the middle of a full-length film. Places like AMC Fork and Screen have a kids' menu that will meet the pizza and french fry cravings of any kiddo with the metabolism we all envy. Standard popcorn and candy may be the safer bet for adults with higher culinary standards. Regardless of your food choice, you'll be pleased to knock out a dinner and entertainment outing all in one swoop.

As the kids' movies continue to pop up on the big screen, here's to feeling better equipped to conquer yet another outing with the entire family. Enjoy the show!
