Mayhem in Macon: Oprah arrives!

The talk-show queen arrives to tape a show there at City Auditorium.

Madness hit Macon when television queen Oprah Winfrey arrived to tape her show in November 2007.

As if Oprah's presence wasn't enough to excite the town, she taped her annual "Oprah's Favorite Things" show there. That's the show where she gives away lots of cool stuff to the audience.

Macon boasts an especially high number of Oprah fans, according to TV ratings.

Oprah stopped for a bite at Nu-Way Weiners.

According to an Associated Press story, Oprah said the hot dogs at Nu-Way were her favorite thing about her visit to Macon.

The Macon episode begins a series of shows about small towns. Oprah herself is from a small town -- Kosciusko, Miss.

The talk-show host also visited a local boutique, Ginger Michelle.

The 300 fans who attended the taping of the show reportedly received refrigerators, camcorders and even some wrapping paper.

Needless to say, she was mobbed by fans the whole time, but security was tight.

Oprah's presence could generate some publicity for Macon and its businesses.
