Marvel will release a 7-issue series based on fear.

Marvel announced that it would start a series titled "Fear Itself" that will span the Marvel universe as a seven-issue limited series, launching in April.

The story line starts in March with a one-shot prologue penned by Ed Brubaker. It will involve Captain America "and a mission in World War II that sets the stage for what's to come in the main 'Fear Itself' book," said said Marvel executive editor Tom Brevoort.

Spider-Man will be part of the series, which will leave its characters scarred but smarter.

Thor will be part of the series, the details of which were closely guarded. Writer Matt Fraction said it would feature heroes versus a "God of Fear" who draws his power from fearful feelings.

Marvel execs said the thread of the story will be woven in the coming months and involve major characters, including the Hulk.
