The San Francisco Art Exchange at 458 Geary St. is showcasing an exhibition titled 'Marilyn: Intimate Exposures', images by Hollywood's Glamour Photographer Bruno Bernard.

Bruno Bernard or Bernard of Hollywood as he was professionally known, met and photographed a young Norma Jean Dougherty for the first time in the summer of 1946.

An aspiring young model with dreams of becoming an actress, he immediately recognized her potential and began placing her in his advertising assignments.

Remarkably, several photographs from their very first session together caught the attention of Hollywood executives and led to her first film contract with Fox only a month later.

Bernard and Marilyn worked together many times during the incredible sixteen years that followed, and as a close friend and confidante he often helped her navigate through the many obstacles in Hollywood. Due to their special relationship and his genuine concern for her well-being, his photographs provide a unique perspective on her transition from an innocent unknown into an iconic superstar.

In honor of the fiftieth anniversary of her death, the San Francisco Art Exchange is hosting a special exhibition to introduce nearly forty new limited edition photographs from this archive.

This exhibition is in collaboration with Susan Bernard, the photographer's daughter and the author of Marilyn: Intimate Exposures, a book that chronicles the complexities of this impressive collaboration with Bernard's pictures as well as with his own words from letters, journal entries and hand-written notes from his photographic files.
