A local brewery is celebrating the fact that the I-85 South has reopened with a bash for first responders, DOT and construction workers, and Atlanta residents.

SweetWater Brewing Company will host a “I Survived I-85” party on May 26.

General admission to the event will include a tour of the brewery, access to the party and a live concert by folk band Magic Giant. Fox Bros. Bar-B-Q will be on location selling food.

Tickets are $12 and available through Xorbia.

The brewery is also offering a VIP option that will include free food from Fox Bros. and access to SweetWater’s new barrel aging facility, The Woodland. VIP tickets are $25.

SweetWater's publicist Tucker Berta Sarkisian said the party will be free for first responders, DOT and C.W. Matthews contractors. RSVP by emailing RSVP@sweetwaterbrew.com.

“I remember the night the bridge collapsed. We were all out on the patio and you could see the smoke,” Sarkisian said about the March 30 incident. “The next day we were talking about it and we were [speculating] it would be a year minimum before the bridge is repaired.”

Bridge repairs took less than two months.

Sarkisian said the bridge closing affected business at SweetWater and other neighboring companies.
