A miniseries about founding father John Adams.

HBO invades public-TV territory with "John Adams," a seven-part miniseries about the founding father. It premiered at New York's Museum of Modern Art. Tom Hanks (left) produces; Paul Giamatti (right) stars.

Giamatti dons a tricorn as John Adams, with Laura Linney (not pictured) as his Mrs. It begins March 16 at 8 p.m.

Hanks' Playtone Productions company produced the miniseries from author David McCullough's Pulitzer Prize-winning biography.

David Morse, still sporting 'burns, plays George Washington.

Justin Theroux, notable for his roles as bad guys or creeps, plays John Hancock, who, as far as we can tell, was neither!

Famous daughters, Part 1: Mamie Gummer (daughter of Meryl Streep) plays Sally Adams.

Famous daughters, Part 2: Eva Amurri (daughter of Susan Sarandon, who starred in her own HBO film last month).
