CLARKSTON
“The Elixir of Love”
If you want a taste of opera, but want to sample it in an unpretentious setting without subtitles, this is your chance. Members of the Peach State Opera company present “The Elixir of Love,” an Italian comedic opera that has been translated into English. It’s also been updated: The protagonist, Nemorino, is a “country bumpkin” caught in a love triangle who purchases a love potion from a traveling con artist. He hopes to win the affections of Adina, a wealthy local land owner, but, as is so often the case in opera, nothing goes as expected. Plan to be there an hour before the show for a discussion of the music and lyrics.
3 p.m. March 1. $22, with discounts for students and seniors. Cole Auditorium at Georgia Perimeter College, 555 N. Indian Creek Drive, Clarkston. 678-891-3200, www.peachstateopera.org.
