The rash of celebrity deaths to begin the new year has left fans shocked and saddened. Fans took to social media to mourn the deaths and many have commented on the amount of notable deaths in such a short time span.

What’s more, music legend David Bowie, acclaimed actor Alan Rickman, Celine Dion’s manager and husband René Angélil and beloved 1970s television star Dan Haggerty all died from cancer. Bowie and Rickman were both 69.

This week also started off on a sad note. Monday, Eagles guitarist and co-founder Glenn Frey died at the age of 67.

DAVID BOWIE

Music legend David Bowie left his unique mark on the music, film and fashion industries. He was known for pushing creative boundaries and for his gender-bending persona. Bowie died of liver cancer Sunday. He was 69. Just days before his death, he released a new album.

Acclaimed British Actor Alan Rickman died Thursday after a battle with cancer. He was 69. It has been reported, but not confirmed that Rickman had pancreatic cancer. He was best known for his role as Snape in the “Harry Potter” film series. Rickman also had a successful stage career.

RENÉ ANGÉLIL

René Angélil was superstar Céline Dion's manager and husband. He died Thursday in Las Vegas. He was 73 and had a lengthy battle with throat cancer. On Saturday, it was reported that Celine Dion's brother, Daniel, had also died from cancer.

DAN HAGGERTY

Actor Dan Haggerty, best known for his starring role in “The Life and Times of Grizzly Adams” about a mountain man and animal trainer died Friday in Burbank, California. Haggerty was 74 and had been battling cancer of the spine.
