By all accounts, onion rings are a guilty pleasure best served up with a burger or hot dog.

The are some of the top five spots serving up the sinful side dish in metro Atlanta:

Farm Burger

410-B W. Ponce de Leon Ave., Decatur, 404-378-5077, farmburger.net.

This feel-good, grass-fed beef burger place scores with quality fixings and sides like seasonal pickles and hand-cut fries. The thick, beer-battered onion rings, served with smoked paprika mayo, are crunchy outside and juicy inside. Best of all, they actually taste like beer.

The Counter

850 Mansell Road, Roswell, 678-461-9661, thecounterburger.com .

A cool, updated rendition of the classic California burger joint, this franchise doesn’t exactly make rings. But the thin, crispy, slightly spicy onion strings make a great side and an outstanding burger topping.

Jim ’n Nick’s Bar-B-Q

4574 S. Cobb Drive S.E., Smyrna, 678-556-0011, jimnnicks.com .

The Southern-style, family-friendly barbecue chain is known for its made-from-scratch credo. That works for the big and juicy onion rings with a crusty, barely there batter.

Yeah Burger

1168 Howell Mill Road, Suite E, Atlanta, 404-496-4393, yeahburger.com .

Another bastion of grass-fed beef and quality sides, Yeah Burger does onion rings two ways. The thin buttermilk Vidalia rings have a tasty tang. The gluten-free rings are a boon to celiac disease sufferers.

Barker’s Red Hots

3000 Windy Hill Road, Marietta, 770-272-0407, barkersredhots.com .

In addition to Barker’s charcoal-grilled hot dogs, the sweet onion rings are one of best bargain bites around. Cooked to order, they’re always hot and fresh, with a thin, crispy, shell-like batter.
