"When my husband and I moved to Atlanta in the '60s, there was a wonderful restaurant on Lee Street in the West End called Pilgreen's, the T-Bone King. Their specialty was their wonderful fried cauliflower. A few years back Pilgreen's burned and has not been rebuilt. I have tried many recipes and tried to make up my own with no success. It would be most appreciated by me and certainly others if you could obtain the recipe."

The goddess has some good news and some bad news. Since the gastronomic guide is a glass-half-full kind of gal, first the good. Gaines need not be deprived of the crispy cauliflower of her dreams. Pilgreen’s, a family run business since 1932, is still alive and kicking in McDonough, serving the T-bones and fried cauliflower that won her heart all those years ago. Unfortunately, the cauliflower recipe is a well-protected secret, so Gaines and others will need to enjoy it in the restaurant instead of at home (look on the bright side, no pots to wash!). The goddess would like to thank Bob Harbort of Southern Polytechnic State University, who helped track down the restaurant and gives the following advice: “Tell them to try Rip's [onion] Rings -- they're the best.” For more information on Pilgreen’s check out www.the-t-boneking.com.

Now, moving on to more matters of the appetite. The goddess wants to know: What are you cooking up for this Memorial Day? Are you sticking with a traditional menu or trying something new? Send any tried and true special recipes to the goddess so she can share them with her beloved readers as grilling season officially commences.
