It's another week before "Dancing with the Stars" returns to ABC television, but there's a similar Atlanta-based competition to tide fans over: Dancing with the Drag Queens.
"If you've watched ("Dancing with the Stars,") you kind of have an idea as to what's going on," drag queen and co-host Phoenix told Nelson's News on wsbtv.com. "We've got drag queens from all around the city and they're going to be competing with professional dancers and I think it's going to be fun to watch."
Dancing with the Drag Queens is a six-week competition that happens each week on Monday nights at Jungle Atlanta.
"They compete in a different dance style with male professional dancers; salsa, disco, Broadway, jazz," producer and co-host Cayce Guest said. "And we've got a lot of Atlanta live talent musical performances each night."
Last Monday night was more of a showcase. The drag queens performed, the judges offered tips, there were musical performances, but no elimination. Eliminations will start this week.
"I'm looking for that wow factor, the same thing we're looking for when we see live singers or live musicians," guest judge Barry Brandon said. "There's something about the connection between the music, the performance, the look, everything when it comes to live. So, I'm just hoping that they come out and wow me."
There's a $7 admission fee each Monday night and Guest said a percentage of the proceeds will benefit AID Atlanta.
