Van Winkle performed 100 community service hours and paid $1,139 to the deceased homeowner's estate. According to The Daily Mail, the third-degree felony grand theft charge, which would've included a $5,000 fine and five years in prison, was dropped and leaves Van Winkle without a criminal record.

The Palm Beach Post reported that Van Winkle told police that the items were left on the curb after a foreman told him to keep them at his own house until the renovations were complete. He also called the case a "misunderstanding."
